Delaware Transit Corporation is known for providing high-quality transportation services to satisfy community needs. The corporation aims to become a premier organization with hi-tech facilities and committed workforce. DART is the multi-modal transit system of Delaware.
SCAT Stands For: Senior Citizens Affordable Taxi
SCAT is a program where seniors aged 65 or over, or anyone with a mental/physical disability is eligible for discounted taxi fares. However, certification is mandatory for verification of age/disability. Once your certificate is approved, you can get a DART SCAT ID card.
One notable thing is, if you require a wheelchair, you need to inquire with the taxi operator well in advance. This is because taxis are privately owned, and Delaware Transit Corporation cannot assure wheelchair accessibility in each vehicle.
You can purchase a SCAT ticket book at any DART store for half the price. In other words, you get a straight 50 percent off! You can use these tickets to pay the taxi fare. Do not forget to keep the SCAT ID card with you when you are going to purchase SCAT tickets. You can also purchase these tickets through the mail. Once you have the tickets with you, it is easy to book a taxi. Just call a participating taxi business that is closest to you, and book a trip. Also, make it a point to mention that you would be using a SCAT ticket. Your SCAT ID card must be presented to the driver when he/she comes to pick you.
SCAT Is A Wonderful Service
This SCAT program is a wonderful service for all seniors and to those that have disabilities. It would be great if other states could follow along in the same tracks and offer a 50% discount on taxi rides for seniors.
Please take a look at the official SCAT website for more information about the SCAT taxi program.
